Osun APC guber aspirants settle for consensus candidate after meeting with Tinubu

All eight governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state have agreed to support a consensus candidate ahead of Saturday’s primary election primary.

The decision was reached late Monday night after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

In a joint statement signed by the aspirants, they pledged full loyalty to the party’s choice of flagbearer and rally behind the candidate selected through the party’s consensus arrangement.

The aspirants who signed the declaration are: Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke, Babatunde Hareter Oralusi, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

“That we unanimously agree to abide by the party’s decision to nominate a consensus candidate for affirmation at the APC Primary Election scheduled for Saturday, 13th December 2025,” the statement reads.

“That we accept the outcome of the party-led nomination process in good faith, and pledge our total support to the candidate so nominated and affirmed.

“That we commit ourselves to peace, unity, and cohesion within the APC, and pledge not to engage in any act, public or private, that may undermine the integrity of the process or the standing of the party.”

The meeting, which was also attended by Nentawe Yilwatda, APC national chairman; George Akume, secretary to the government of the federation, Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo; Adegboyega Oyetola, minister of marine and blue economy, was convened by Tinubu to “prevent a repeat” of the internal crisis that cost the party the governorship in 2022.

Meanwhile, the APC screening committee barred Omisore and six other aspirants from contesting the Osun governorship primary scheduled for December 13.

The panel said the seven disqualified aspirants did not present proof of sponsorship by at least five fully registered and financially up-to-date party members from each LGA as required by the APC constitution and guidelines.
