Osun assembly proposes six-month jail term, N250k fine for public skating

The Osun house of assembly has proposed a bill that could see individuals skating on public roads or sidewalks facing up to six months in prison or a fine of N250,000.

The Osun State Skating Restriction Bill 2025 was discussed during a committee of the whole session at plenary on Tuesday.

According to NAN, Adewale Egbedun, the speaker of the assembly and chairman of the committee, said roller skating should be confined to indoor settings.

Egbedun said the proposed law would empower citizens to arrest anyone found skating on public roads and hand them over to the police.

He added that the legislation would grant both magistrates’ and high courts in the state the authority to adjudicate on such offences.

“Anybody or persons who skates or use roller skates on public road or sidewalks shall be guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not less than six months or alternative sentencing of payment of sum not less than N250,000 or both,” Egbedun said.

The assembly then shifted its focus to deliberate on the Osun State Multi-Door Court House Establishment Bill 2025 before adjourning the sitting until Monday, May 12.
