A man and his wife abducted by gunmen while returning from a church vigil have reportedly escaped from their abductors.

NAN reports that Bashir Adewinmbi, Osun commander of the southwest security outfit, Amotekun, confirmed the development on Wednesday.

TheCable had earlier reported that the couple was abducted on Saturday while returning from vigil along Osogbo to Iragbiji area of the state.

Adewinmbi said the wife, identified as Margret Jonah, was sighted by the Amotekun operatives when she stormed out of the Kelebe forest.

He said the woman was rescued on Tuesday at about 9 pm along Iragbiji-Osogbo road and was taken to the Amotekun command where she revealed the kidnappers abducted her and her husband.

The woman said the gunmen fled the location in the forest when they spotted the police operatives.

“She said their kidnappers fled when the police were closing in on them, giving her and her husband the opportunity to escape, but in different directions,” NAN quoted Adewinmbi as saying.
