Osun imposes curfew on two LGAs after communal clash

Workers in Osun state will begin a three-day warning strike on Wednesday to demand the payment of their salary arrears.
According to NAN, the impending strike was made known in a notice issued by the joint negotiating council, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress, Oyo state chapter, on Tuesday.
The labour unions said if the government fails to meet their demands within three days, further action would be communicated to the workers.
“The labour movement in Osun at a meeting held on Tuesday, August 28, resolved that workers in the state should embark on a three-day warning strike, effective from Wednesday August 29 to Friday August 31 to demand,” the notice read.
“Payment of 34 months’ salary arrears of 50 percent for officers on grade level 08 and above, which is an equivalent of 17 months full salary.
“Payment of 34 months pension arrears of retired workers in the state; remittance of 34 months contributory pension arrears; payment of outstanding gratuity to all pensioners.
“Payment of 2016 leave allowances across board to officers of the state government.
“If the government fails to meet up with all our demands within the three-day warning strike, workers will be further directed.”
In January, the labour unions embarked on a three-day warning strike to call on the Oyo government to address the 13-week-old strike of the state-owned tertiary institutions, and the 256 sacked workers of Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomosho.
