David Anyaele, special adviser on disability matters to Alex Otti, governor of Abia, has emphasised the administration’s readiness to deal with the challenges confronting Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the state.

Anyaele said this in his office in Umuahia, the state capital, when he received a team from The Straight Child Foundation (TSCF) led by Peace Amaraegbulam.

The governor’s aide stated that Otti’s policies were all-inclusive and carefully crafted to improve the lives of PWDs.

He said government recognises and relates with the predicament of PWDs who “have been neglected since 1999”.

Anyaele cited the coronation of Anthony Ohaeri, an auditory impaired individual, as the traditional ruler of Umuawa Alaocha II autonomous community, Ohuhu clan in Umuahia north LGA, as proof of the administration’s commitment to running an “all-inclusive government”.

He commended Otti and Priscilla Otti, the first lady, for their efforts at ensuring that PWDs are not discriminated against.

He also cited para sports inauguration in the state, sponsorship for paralympic events, distribution of white canes to the visually impaired during the 2023 International White Cane Safety Day celebration, among other support for PWDs by the state government.
