The Edo state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has lamented the “sorry state of the health sector in Edo and Nigeria at large”.

In a statement on Wednesday, the doctors complained about the poor facilities at the Central Hospital in Edo.

According to them, there is hardly any functional ward that is befitting for sick people and laboratories and theatres in the hospital were not an exception.

The statement added that there were only 130 doctors, including specialists, medical officers and housemen, in the Edo state hospital management board, serving over the 3 million residents of the state.

They also complained that the few doctors, who are overstretched, are not properly remunerated and motivated.

The BBC had reported that President Muhammadu Buhari lacked faith in the nation’s health care sector, hence his decision to seek medical care abroad.
