Flutterwave, a digital payment platform, says its payment system was not suspended as a result of #EndSARS protest.
Reports on some media platforms had quoted Tunde Lemo, chairman of Flutterwave, as saying that he personally ordered a suspension of the fintech firm’s payment platform.
According to the reports, Lemo said the decision was taken to prevent illicit flow of fund through the payment channel.
“I was the one that instructed them to shut down their system yesterday when the bad guys were moving money through them,” he allegedly said.
The report was released following rumours that Flutterwave’s account and that of Feminist Coalition, a pro-#EndSARS women group, were frozen.
Over N16 million has been donated into the account, including donations in foreign currencies.
The donation is used to fund medical supplies, food, drinks, legal aids, among others to sustain the #EndSARS protest.
But in a statement on Wednesday, the Flutterwave team debunked the report, saying its chairman never said so.
The company said Lemo had no interview with the media platform, adding that the quoted remarks are false.
“Our attention has been drawn to false quotes by Thisday, Nairametrics and Arise TV which have been erroneously attributed to our Board Chairman, Tunde Lemo,” the statement read.
“Contrary to these reports, this interview never happened. Our payment platforms are up and running efficiently, as usual. Merchant payouts and collections are running seamlessly. Our consumer product, Barter by Flutterwave, is also completely operational.
“We are overwhelmed by the love and support Flutterwave has received over the last few days as we continue to simplify payments for endless possibilities for you.”
