Ousted Sudanese President Omar Al-bashir has been transferred to Kobar prison in Khartoum.

Al-Bashir is reportedly being held under tight security in solitary confinement, according to Reuters.

“Last night, Bashir was transferred to Kober prison in Khartoum,” the agency quoted a source as saying.

According to sources, there was a heavy deployment of soldiers and members of the paramilitary Rapid Support Force outside the prison in north Khartoum.

“There are troops in vehicles mounted with machine-guns near the prison,” a source was quoted to have said.

Al-Bashir was removed and detained by the Sudanese military after series of protests demanding his resignation.

After his removal, Awad Ibn Auf, Sudanese defence minister and army general, said the military will be in charge of the country for two years and conduct elections afterwards.

The ousted president was reportedly detained under heavy guard in the presidential residence that also houses the defence ministry.

Protesters, who had earlier demanded the resignation of al-Bashir, mounted pressure on the military to leave.

On Friday, Ibn Auf stepped down, announcing that another military general would be in charge of the country.
