The surroundings of the hotel where the Super Eagles are lodged in Morocco are currently causing outrage on social media.
The Eagles are camped at the Rive Hotel, a four-star accommodation, in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of the forthcoming African World Cup playoffs.
The online backlash began on Monday after a video of the hotel, taken by Alex Iwobi, went viral.
In the video, Iwobi reveals the unhygienic state of another building beside the hotel where the team is camped. The residential multi-storey building has its paint fading, with rusty satellite dishes clinging to its edges.

Reacting to the clip, Nigerians on social media called out the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).
Babatunde Ojora, a sports journalist and X user, said he is “disappointed” by NFF because “I expected the basics to be sorted by our federation”.
“Let’s be clear – Morocco, CAF, and FIFA have nothing to do with the hotel where the Super Eagles are staying in Rabat,” he tweeted.
“The real issue lies with the NFF. I expected the basics to be sorted by our Federation going into these playoffs, honestly, I’m disappointed.”

Another X user, @thevictorukpai, said the situation demonstrated a “serious lack of excellence that has spread across all sectors of the Nigerian economy”.
“We have what it takes to provide the best, but we’re okay with mid. In what world should our Super Eagles be staying in a hotel of that standard? This behaviour has to stop fr!” the tweet read.
In reaction to the outrage, NFF has defended its choice of hotel for the team.
The federation claimed that the hotel was chosen “because of its proximity to the team’s training facility and the stadium here in Rabat”.

This is very sad.
Lack of excellence spirit from our officials.
I as a private citizen got a good hotel in Morocco. Why can’t our beloved Super Eagles get a good, condusive hotel.
I can’t understand how we do our things. https://t.co/POt9vu3nCZ pic.twitter.com/oOA8ahwGTg

Alex Iwobi's view was the backyard of the building behind Super Eagles' hotel. It was evident that it was the back of a building and he was marvelled. Nothing more! Nigerians are quick to negate anything and everything. It's a big reflection. Phew!

What happened today With the Super Eagles and Morocco Hotel Debacle is just a reflection of How Nigerians give Narratives to whatever suits them, we have carried our disgraceful attitude of being dishonest with Narratives without due diligence for our many interests and agenda.

If you read atomic habits you would know that little things like this adversely affects performance. If we don’t qualify for the world cup, don’t drag Alex Iwobi! Blame NFF https://t.co/nbCbjimRG9

Imagine how we are treating our players in preparation for Nigeria’s biggest games of the last 4 years.
Some of these players are dollar millionaires in their own right, so this is more than incompetence/corruption, it is lack of regard for professionals of their class. https://t.co/9hEIbg0Qzp
