Outstanding Rivers rerun elections postponed till 2017

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says it would conduct the outstanding Rivers state assembly rerun elections in 2017.
Mahmoud Yakubu, chairman of INEC, said this on Friday while speaking at the opening of a two-day workshop organised by the commission for journalists in Abuja.
All rerun elections into the national assembly were concluded on Saturday except that of two constituencies in Etche.
Yakubu explained that INEC was reviewing the 70 incidences of deliberate obstruction recorded in the process of the rerun election with a view to prosecuting them in line with its guidelines.

The INEC chairman also added that the commission would not hesitate to punish any of its staff found wanting.
