Chams Plc, a Lagos-based company, has mourned the death of Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, its non-executive director.
Ibidapo-Obe, a former vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos, died on Sunday.
Until his death, he was the pro-chancellor of the First Technical University, Ibadan, Oyo state.
In a statement on Wednesday signed by the board and management of Chams Plc, the company described the deceased as “one of the best men in all ramifications”.
According to the company, Ibidapo-Obe was appointed to serve on the board of Chams Plc in 2016, and has since then contributed positively to the growth and success of the organisation.
“The board, management and staff of Chams Plc express deep sadness over the sudden death of Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, a serving Non-Executive Director on the Board of Chams Plc,” the statement reads.
“The news of his death, which occurred on Sunday, January 3, 2020, was received with shock as he was only a few weeks ago active and full of life with outstanding contributions during a board meeting.”
According to the statement, Adedamola Aladekoko, chairman of Chams Plc, said the late scholar made significant positive impact in his endeavours.
“The erudite scholar and former Vice Chancellor of University of Lagos (UNILAG) etched great memories in the minds of people around him,” Aladekoko was quoted to have said.
“Just lost my dear brother, friend, board member at Chams and a great Egbon, Prof Oye Ibidapo-Obe. One of the best men in all ramifications one came across in this race of life. Etched great memories on one’s mind and life.
“May Prof OIO’s soul rest in perfect peace. Prof made sure every encounter mattered and his impact positively felt in all his multiple activities. Jolly good Egbon. Egbon rere.
“Since Prof. Ibidapo-Obe was appointed to the Board of Chams Plc in 2016, his contributions to the growth of the company has been tremendous and sterling. He will be sorely missed, especially now that Chams Plc is expanding its operations across Africa.”
