Biodun Oyebanji
Biodun Oyebanji, governor of Ekiti, has forwarded a fresh list of commissioner nominees to the state assembly for screening.
In a statement on Monday, Olayinka Oyebode, special adviser on media to the governor, said the move is aimed at reconstituting the state’s executive council.
He said the nominees are largely the same commissioners who served in the cabinet dissolved on August 10.
Oyebode added that the decision to return the former cabinet members was reached after consultations with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other key stakeholders in the state.

“The decision to re-present the former commissioners for consideration by the State Assembly was jointly taken by the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and critical stakeholders of the party in Ekiti State, who impressed it on the Governor to retain the team,” the statement reads.
“The decision was hinged on the need for the party to go into the June 20, 2026 Ekiti State Governorship election as a united family.
“It is believed that appointing a new set of commissioners barely seven months to the election could be counter-productive.

“Recall that the party leadership, the leadership of various towns and communities and other critical stakeholders, worked with the screening committee set up by the Governor, in the selection, nomination and appointment of the Commissioners and other appointees in 2023.”
Oyebode said the governor had, at the start of his administration, committed to a process that gives communities and the party significant input in determining public officeholders.
He added that Oyebanji maintained that such a model would ensure accountability to the people.
