Oyebanji to Ekiti commissioners: You’ll be assessed after six months in office

Biodun Oyebanji, governor of Ekiti state, says commissioners in his cabinet will be assessed based on their performance after six months in office.

The governor said having provided the necessary guidance and support, each commissioner would be assessed to see the level of innovation they are able to bring to enhance growth in the state.

Yinka Oyebode, special adviser to the governor on media, said in a statement that Oyebanji spoke on Thursday at the commencement of the work plan review with commissioners and permanent secretaries of ministries, departments and parastatals (MDAs).

The governor said the performance bond signed by the commissioners when they assumed office has started counting, adding that there would be no room for any poor performance.

“Recall I said at the Exco meeting that it is not going to be business as usual. I don’t want us to continue using the same old methods of doing things. If we do that we will remain on a spot for the next three years” he added.

He said the meeting with heads of MDAs following the division of some ministries was necessary to review and approve work plans.

Oyebanji also said ministries must form diplomatic bonds with their successful counterparts in other states to learn and replicate their productive policies in Ekiti.

On August 13, the governor suspended Olaiya Atibioke, the commissioner for chieftaincy and home affairs, for two weeks, for leaving the venue of a retreat organised by the state, without permission.

The governor had stressed that his administration would not tolerate indiscipline and poor performance amongst members of his cabinet.
