Olatunbosun Oyintiloye
Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state, says President Bola Tinubu has done enough to earn the backing of the northern political elite ahead of the 2027 election.
Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye described Tinubu as a long-time friend of the north, who has consistently supported the region’s political interests.
He argued that such loyalty should be repaid with full support for the president’s second term bid.
However, the former lawmaker alleged that a small group of northern elites is plotting to derail the president’s chances.

He said the clique often emerges whenever a southerner is in power, using blackmail and political pressure to weaken the presidency.
“This has been recurring and the nation’s political history won’t forget the kind of intimidation southern presidents often suffered in the hands of very few men from the north who always mount serious opposition to the re-election bid of such president,” Oyintiloye said.
“But in the case of President Bola Tinubu, he has done enough to get the support of the major power bloc in the north.

“Therefore, the time has come for the region to further put the tiny few behind the mischief being plotted against the president where they really belong.
“These individuals are self appointed leaders of the north, so the region’s recognised political leaders and royal fathers can’t continue to watch the trend and allow blackmail against Tinubu to gain traction.”
Oyintiloye urged prominent southern political and traditional leaders to reject the influence of “self-appointed leaders of the north” and stop the alleged plot against Tinubu.
He also warned them against aligning with those working against the president.

“And this is the more reason the southern leaders must rise and rally support for the president,” he added.
“They should shield the president against unwarranted attacks from just a handful of politicians from the north.”
