Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, has urged service chiefs to involve local security networks in intelligence gathering.

Speaking with journalists on Sunday in Osogbo, Osun capital, Oyintiloye emphasised that expanded intelligence gathering would complement efforts aimed at tackling insecurity.

The APC party chieftain said the network must consist of stakeholders living in different communities, noting that this would go a long way in preventing terrorist attacks.

He expressed concern over the rise in killings by suspected bandits in Kwara, Borno, Zamfara, and Niger, and urged service chiefs to be more “ruthless” in dealing with perpetrators.

“There is no doubt that the service chiefs are doing their best to stop the killings by the bandits, but they need to be more ruthless with them until they quench insurgency in our land,” he said.

Oyintiloye also urged the service chiefs to ensure that they were not harbouring internal saboteurs in their efforts.

“This is very important to restore public confidence in the security agencies,” he said.

“People are tired, and many of them are living in fear of the unknown due to the activities of those perpetrating violent crimes in the country.”

Oyintiloye added that security agencies should also target the financial backbone of terrorist groups in the country as part of plans to crush insecurity.
