The Oyo state government has said that it is not planning to convert Agodi Gardens into a housing estate.

Williams Funmilayo, the commissioner for lands, housing and urban development, said “mischief makers” are hell bent on distracting the “state government and undermining its laudable achievements”.

Funmilayo emphasised government’s commitment to reforestation and afforestation.

He explained that the swathe of land earmarked for Baywood estate does not include the gardens, and disclosed government’s plans to elevate the garden to international standard and make it a competitive tourist centre.

The commissioner recalled that the garden was created in 1967, damaged by Ogunpa flood disaster in 1980, renovated in 2012 and reopened in 2014 as a tourist attraction in Ibadan.

“Any individual in doubt about the government’s plans in that corridor should visit the ministry for further clarifications,” Funmilayo said.
