Oyo rep begins PVC collection drive, targets 10m south-west votes for APC in 2027

Aderemi Oseni

Aderemi Oseni, a member of the house of representatives, has set up a committee to drive permanent voter cards (PVCs) collection in the south-west ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking at a media parley on Thursday in Lagos, the lawmaker, who represents Ibarapa east/Ido federal constituency of Oyo state, said the Remi Oseni Committee of Friends (ROCOF) is a non-political, non-religious, and non-ethnic movement.

He said ROCOF is not a rival to the All Progressives Congress (APC) but a forum of like-minded individuals seeking the rebirth of Oyo state and Nigeria.

The lawmaker said the goal is a society where “justice reigns, equity becomes an order, accountability is our culture, with all committed to good governance”.

“That is what ROCOF stands for, and we have started mobilising our people for continuous voter registration ahead of the 2027 general election,” he said.

“At ROCOF, we have no fewer than 200,000 members who share our vision for the rebirth of Oyo state and are also committed to the re-election of President Bola Tinubu across political divides.

“Unlike 2023 when Nigeria recorded only 26.7% voter turnout in the general election, our vision is to change the narratives; educate our people to register for PVCs and encourage them to perform their civic duty during the electioneering.

“In the south-west alone, we have a vision to achieve at least 75 percent voter turnout and ensure APC secures nothing less than 10 million votes in the presidential election.

“The journey to 2027 has already started with continuous voter registration.

“Regardless of the eruption of emotion by the opposition parties that frittered away precious opportunities we once had in our country, we will leverage the gains of our reforms to mobilise support for the APC and ensure it secures a landslide not just in Oyo state and south-west, but also Nigeria at large.”

The lawmaker expressed his desire to run for governor if backed by the party.

“This is, however, not a do-or-die affair. The governorship race is not a tea party; it involves lots of things and dialogue. I know in the couple of months to come, the coast will be clearer, and I will always go by the party’s decision,” he said.

‘FG REHABILITATING ROADS NATIONWIDE’

The lawmaker, who chairs the house of representatives committee on federal road maintenance, said the Tinubu administration is constructing and rehabilitating roads across the country.

“This assignment has also given us the opportunity to see other road infrastructure projects that the federal government has been executing across the federation,” he said.

“Our findings clearly show that Nigeria is transitioning from the period of disparate road infrastructure to an era of linking our economy to the development of strategic transport infrastructure projects.

“We have seen existing federal roads undergoing either massive rehabilitation or outright reconstruction, both in the North and South.

“We have also seen the speed at which the administration of President Bola Ahmed is implementing legacy projects, including the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway and the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway.

“Also, the resolve of this administration to reconstruct the Ibadan-Ilesha-Akure-Benin highway is one of such purpose-driven road development projects, and we are privy to diverse initiatives the administration has been taking to connect all states of the federation.”

Oseni added that the projects are based on Tinubu’s conviction that effective transportation is the lifeblood of every economy.
