Oyome, Keswani shine at Ikoyi ladies golf championship

Six-handicapper, Evelyn Oyome, emerged the winner of the 2019 Ikoyi Ladies Golf Championship at the Golf Section of the club in Lagos on Sunday.

Oyome, a multiple winner of the ladies honour, shot 80 on the first day of the event and returned two strokes better in the closing round to edge the over 100 players that competed at the event to the title.

Captain of the club, Lola Ajibola, who congratulated Oyome, said the event aimed at promoting golf development among female members of the Ikoyi club.

“We are excited to keep female golfers active at the club and the latest competition helps us bond together while rewarding efforts of dedicated members of the club. Oyome’s win is reward of hardwork and commitment to self-development,” Ajibola said.

Oyome edged Gloria Joel and Nkoli Moka to the second and third place respectively in the gross category while Chitra Keswani and Juliana Allegenyi were individual gross winners for the first and second days respectively.

Other winners include Veronica Chaka who got the best guest prize; the pair of Edith Udegbe and Pauline Onafowokan also carting home daily net prizes and Ijeoma Onumonu winning the men’s prize.

Accordind to the Ajibola, her team aims to create and sustain enabling environment that will drive golf among the womenfolk and youth.

“We have a thriving youth programme and we plan to have more young golfers nurtured through the process. We also hope to continue to discover more young players for the country,” she said.
