There was panic at the main gate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, when several rounds of ammunition reportedly fell from a moving passenger bus along the Zaria–Katsina highway.
According to a video on X by Zagazola Makama, a counter-terrorism publication, the incident occurred directly in front of the university’s main gate on Tuesday, causing a brief commotion among pedestrians and motorists.
The publication said an eyewitness, who identified himself as Musa, said the ammunition dropped from a commercial vehicle heading towards Katsina.
“We suddenly saw the bullets drop from the bus as it sped past the gate. Before people could understand what happened, the vehicle had already disappeared,” he said.

Musa added that some bystanders quickly picked up the ammunition and immediately alerted security operatives stationed in the area.
Another student who preferred to remain anonymous, described the incident as “strange and frightening,” noting that many feared the ammunition could be linked to supplies meant for bandits operating in parts of Kaduna and Katsina.
Makama said security personnel later arrived at the scene and recovered the ammunition.
