One of the parents of the Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped by the Boko Haram insurgent group in 2014 has died.

Yakubu Yarima died on Saturday morning in an auto crash in Song, Adamawa state, while embarking on a trip with other Chibok schoolgirls’ parents.

Many were said to have been injured in the incident which occurred at about 10am.

TheCable learned that some of the parents were on their way to visit the girls studying at the American University of Nigeria, Yola, Adamawa, when the accident took place.

Ayuba Alamson, one of the parents, told TheCable that a vehicle conveying about ten of the parents collided with a maintenance truck packed by the side of the road.

“The caterpillar was parked at a sharp bend in Song but the driver (of the said bus) was on speed. So unfortunately, they ended up hitting the it (the truck),” he said.

“Many of them sustained grievous injuries; some broke their hands and legs as a result of the incident.”
