Party members seek Buhari’s intervention in Kwara APC crisis
A group of stakeholders in the Kwara chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in an alleged crisis rocking the ruling party in the state.
Speaking to journalists at the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, Akogun Oyedepo, leader of the group, said the decision of the Mai Mala Buni-led caretaker committee to remove Bashir Bolarinwa, state chairman of the party, had led to the crisis in the chapter.
Oyedepo said the group had explored all opportunities to ensure peace, including meeting with Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, governor of Kwara, as well as the leadership of the party, without success.
“Firstly, we appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to save the party from the imminent destruction that this decision can engender in Kwara,” Oyedepo said.
“We also appeal to leaders of integrity and goodwill in the party to save it from this deliberate journey to political perdition. We appeal to our teeming supporters for calm; they should remain steadfast, resolute and continue to support this historical cause once again.
“We have resolved to reject the verdict of the national caretaker committee on the purported removal of Bashir Omolajau Bolarinwa.”
Oyedepo also accused the governor of ignoring stakeholders in Kwara APC, and called for urgent efforts to ensure smooth running of the party’s affairs in the state.
Unfortunately, the aggrieved members are appealing to the wrong person. Buhari no longer needs the APC as he has achieved the objective for which he agreed to the formation of the party. The APC dying in Kwara state is of no concern to him. What is happening now is those focused on 2023 are positioning themselves strategically by installing their own men in Kwara exco. The truth is that the ACN faction of the APC has been almost completely displaced and rendered impotent in the party.
