First lady Patience Jonathan has taken a cue from her husband, Goodluck Jonathan, by congratulating Aisha Buhari, wife of Muhammadu Buhari, president-elect, for her husband’s victory at the just-concluded election.

“The first lady Dame Patience Jonathan (Mama Peace) has congratulated the wife of the president-elect, Hajia Aisha Buhari, on the election of her husband, General Muhammadu Buhari,” Ayo Adewuyi, media officer of the first lady, Psaid in a statement.

On Wednesday, President Goodluck Jonathan had congratulated Buhari on his victory, even before the official pronouncement was made by Attahiru Jega, chairman of the independent national electoral commission (INEC).

This has been seen as an unprecedented feat in Nigeria, with Jonathan receiving applause from various civil society groups, the international community and the Nigerian public.

Prior the election, Patience Jonathan had urged Nigerian women not to be deceived by Aisha Buhari, who was going about “deceiving people like her husband”. She had also said her husband, Buhari, was brain dead.

“Don’t be deceived. Don’t look at any woman that comes here; don’t listen. They are just deceiving themselves because out of the abundant of the heart, the mouth speaketh,” she said during her campaign in Ilorin, capital of Kwara state.

However, the first lady is willing to put all that behind, and is now canvassing support for Aisha Buhari, pleading with Nigerian women to grant her maximum support as she takes on her new assignment.
