Paul Onuachu, Super Eagles forward, has tested positive for coronavirus.
Het Laaste Niuews, a Belgian online news outlet, confirmed the 26-year old COVID-19 status on Wednesday.
The RKC Gent striker’s result came back positive after the club side tested their players ahead of an exhibition game slated for Thursday.
Onuachu, who recently returned to Belgium after he accompanied Victor Osimhen for his father’s burial in Nigeria, will be quarantined for a week.
He is expected to join the team when he fully recovers from the disease.
“In the run-up to the first exhibition game of the season, the entire Genk group was tested yesterday. Everyone tested negative except Onuachu,” Het Laaste Niuews said.
“Onuachu returned from Nigeria with a delay because airspace over Nigeria remained closed for a long time.
“Racing Genk will play its first exhibition game of the new season against Eendracht Termien tomorrow, but there is quite a bit of concern within the Genk player group. They have been training intensively with Onuachu for more than a week now.
“For the time being, the match against Termien will continue as planned. Last weekend, a friendly game of Waasland-Beveren against KV Mechelen was canceled after a positive corona test with a player from Waasland-Beveren.”
Onuachu scored his first goal for the Nigerian team in a friendly match against Egypt on March 26, 2019.
The goal was scored within the first 10 seconds of the game.
