PDP: 2027 elections will be battle against hunger — Nigerians are wiser

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the 2027 elections will be a contest against hunger, insecurity and hardship — pervasive on the watch of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, Debo Ologunagba, PDP spokesperson, said Nigerians have become “wiser” and would not re-elect the APC.

Ologunagba claimed that the ruling party has weaponised poverty, adding that the economic uncertainty confronting citizens would be a deciding factor on the ballot in 2027.

“Nigerians are wiser now; what will be on the ballot is hunger, insecurity, and uncertainty — things no money can buy,” he said.

“When PDP was in government, farmers used mobile phones to access fertiliser; under APC, Nigerians are forced to buy hunger; in 2027, the people will speak with one voice.”

He further alleged that the APC used security agencies against PDP members in last weekend’s by-elections in Kaduna and Taraba states.

“On the night of that election, all prominent members of the PDP were arrested. Flip over to Taraba state. Prominent members, including elected members of our party, were arrested,” he added.

“We don’t call that an election. And we have heard about the arrogance of the APC. What they have done with those elections attests to what they want to do in 2027.

“But I have bad news for APC. What happened in those by-elections, which they call an election, will not occur in 2027. Why? The reason is that Nigerian people are wiser.

“They are hurting. What will be on the ballot in 2027 will be the hunger, the uncertainty, and the insecurity that no money can purchase.”

PDP CONVENTION HOLDS IN NOVEMBER

In preparation for the PDP national convention, Ologunagba reiterated that the event would be held from November 15-16 in Ibadan, Oyo state.

He said the national convention organising committee, chaired by Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of Adamawa, had been inaugurated, and several subcommittees are already working.

“The PDP is very ready for Ibadan, as this will showcase our capacity to defend democracy and prove once again that we are truly the people’s party,” he said.

‘NO PARALLEL CONVENTION’

Reports suggest that Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), and his allies have yet to endorse the planned convention, which could hinder its success.

The PDP spokesman dismissed the claim as “baseless” and “hallucinatory”.

“We cannot be aware of a non-existing thing. That’s indeed a speculation. How do you have a national convention? There is a process, and we’re a party of process indeed. And what we do is that we follow the constitution of our party,” he said.

“Interestingly, the process has started, and we have been in sync with our regulator, INEC.

“INEC has been attending all the meetings. They are witnesses to all the things we’re doing. That might be a media hype, people testing the waters. In fact, it does not exist. The local organising committee is working hard.

“The venue committee is already working ahead of time. Even before the inauguration of those sub-committees, they’re already working. And we’re methodical in the things we do. So it’s probably in the realm of conjecture.

“I think it would be in the realm of hallucination. And this train has moved on. It’s gone past the bus stop.”

Ologunagba added that preparations for the convention are in full swing.
