PDP candidate commends INEC, security agencies over conduct of Lagos by-election

Jerry Afemikhe, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Power (PDP) for the Surulere 1 federal constituency in the house of representatives, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies over the conduct of the by-election.

Speaking with reporters, the PDP candidate described the election as “calm and without issues”.

“The election has been calm and without issues. I am quite impressed by INEC and the security agencies’ efforts to conduct a free and fair election,” NAN quoted Afemikhe as saying.

He said if he is elected into office, his constituents should expect more development in the area.

“My developmental initiatives will target women empowerment, a good environment for artisans and a conducive environment to do business as well as lots of youth development programmes,” he said.

“I will turn Surulere around for good with my initiatives targeted at building a conducive environment for the masses.”

Also speaking with reporters, Augustine Alechenu, a voter, said he believes whoever wins the election will be a candidate accessible to the people.

“I expect the winner of this election to be accessible to the people regardless of the constituency they belong to,” he said.

“I believe that was one of the strong points of Gbajabiamila who made himself easily accessible to the people of the community up to even the beggars on the street.

“That is why whenever he comes around, you will see a lot of crowd because he had laid a good foundation.”
