PDP governor to accompany Buhari to Togo

Ben Ayade, governor of Cross River state, is in the delegation of President Muhammadu Buhari to two high-level meetings in Lome, Republic of Togo.

Ayade was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement on Saturday, Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, said Buhari would be attending the joint Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)/Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) summit as well as the 53rd ordinary session of the ECOWAS authority of heads of state and government.

He said the joint ECOWAS/ECCAS summit which will be held on deliberate on common security threats to countries in West Africa and members of ECCAS.

The presidential spokesman added that the summit is targeted at forging “concerted strategies” in tackling terrorism, trans-border crimes and other forms of violent extremism.

Shehu said the president will on Tuesday join other leaders of the sub-region for the ECOWAS session which “will be dominated by the political and security situations in Guinea Bissau, Mali and Togo.

Others in the delegation are Abubakar Bello, governor of Niger state and five ministers, including Kemi Adeosun (finance).
