‘I can’t renounce my legacy’ — Sule Lamido says he’s NOT leaving PDP for ADC coalition

Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa state, says he will not join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday in Kano, Lamido said the PDP shaped his political identity, having served in key roles under its platform.

The former governor noted that he is open to working with any political platform that guarantees Nigeria’s peace and stability in the 2027 elections.

“I believe in Nigeria, so any arrangement, be it within or outside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), that will secure and save Nigeria, I am ready to work with it in 2027,” PUNCH quoted Lamido as saying.

“I’m still in the PDP, even though the PDP has some problems, but I cannot renounce my history.

“I can’t simply walk out of my skin and crawl in flesh and blood and be conferred with a smaller skin called ADC. I cannot.

“The PDP honoured me with the position of minister of foreign affairs. I was also governor of Jigawa for eight years under the party.

“So I cannot simply renounce my history, my legacy and my heritage and say, ‘Today I got something new. I am out of the PDP.’ I will not do that.”

Lamido also commented on agitations for the creation of more states, describing them as legitimate but not a solution to the country’s deeper challenges.

“Will the creation of new states solve our problems – insecurity, poverty, hunger and division between the north and the south?” he asked.
