The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described its defeat in Ekiti state governorship election as a temporary setback, saying the “entire nation is standing with us”.

Kayode Fayemi, the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 197,459 votes to defeat Kolapo Olusola, the PDP candidate, who had 178,121 votes.

The party as well as Olusola had earlier rejected the result.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Monday, Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP spokesman, said the party had constituted a committee to pursue legal action regarding the election.

“We want to assure our members that we have nothing to fear in the circumstances that happened in Ekiti state and to let them know the party has taken a decision to go to the end of all judicial processes on the matter of Ekiti state,” Ologbondiyan said, adding: “It is only a temporary setback.”

He added that and that “Nigerians know the truth of what happened.”

“Nigerians were aware votes were bought in Ekiti; they are aware of the humiliation of our party members. Nigerians are also aware that having failed woefully, the APC government has no capacity to stand for a true election,” he added.

“And that is why they have colluded with the security agencies and INEC to rig the election. But like we said, we have not seen the end of it. As a party, we have constituted a committee to look at all the legal angles to the issue and we will pursue it till the end.”
