The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has opened Twitter accounts in three major Nigerian languages – Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo, as well as Pidgin English.

The establishment of the new indigenous accounts is to communicate effectively with Nigerians, PDP said in a statement on Saturday.

The opposition party said it has overcome its “leadership issues” and consequently, it is carrying out a reorganisation of its social media management team.

PDP says it has also “reconstituted” the handlers of its social media accounts while noting that more Nigerian languages will be added “in the coming days and weeks”.

“As part of efforts to reposition our party, we have reconstituted the team managing our accounts. Having overcome the leadership issues within the party, this reorganisation is necessary to better communicate our ideals to Nigerians.

“As part of this reorganisation, we have opened the following official handles @PDPHausa, @PDPIgbo, @PDPIgbo & @PDPPidgin. These handles are part of efforts to communicate with Nigerians in as many languages as possible.

“In the coming days & weeks, we will add more Nigerian languages.”
