Some members of the house of representativesrejoiced on Tuesday morning over the defection of some senators from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Fourteen senators dumped the ruling party to the main opposition party at the commencement of the day’s plenary.
The representatives comprising the PDP caucus chanted the name of Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the house, while they were at the lobby of the national assembly
The lawmakers also chanted the name of  Chukwuka Onyema, a PDP lawmaker and current deputy minority, referring him as the majority leader.
The current majority leader — Femi Gbajabiamila — is of the APC.
Dogara is rumoured to be planning to lead some of the lawmakers out of the ruling party as well.
The senators’ defection followed a siege on the residences of Senate President Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president.
With the defection, the PDP has now inched closer to being the majority at the senate while the APC remains the overwhelming majority at the house.
The day’s plenary has now started and none of the APC lawmakers has yet announced their defection from the ruling party.
