Umar Damagum, national chairman of PDP
The Forum of State Chairmen of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its full support and loyalty to the party’s national chairman, Umar Damagum, dismissing the faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed as illegitimate.
In a statement issued after its meeting on Thursday, November 6, the forum, comprising 29 state chairmen, said Damagum remains the only recognised national chairman of the party under the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended).
“The forum in the same vein dissociates itself from the purported Abdurahman leadership and wants to categorically say that the PDP has only one National Chairman, His Excellency Umar Damagun,” the statement reads.
The forum commended the “collaborative leadership” between the national working committee (NWC), the PDP Governors’ Forum led by Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi state, and the board of trustees (BoT) chaired by Adolphus Wabara.

The forum also called on state chapters to enforce party discipline and take action against members whose activities undermine unity and cohesion within the party.
“The Forum emphasizes the critical importance of discipline within the Party and calls on all State Chapters not to hesitate in invoking the relevant provisions of the Party Constitution to discipline erring members whose conduct undermines unity, cohesion, and the collective interest of the PDP,” the statement reads.
The forum further urged all duly recognised delegates to prepare to participate actively in the forthcoming convention to elect credible and loyal members into the NWC, stressing that the exercise must uphold internal democracy and transparency.
