PDP still stronger than most parties, says Ikpeazu

Okezie Ikpeazu, former governor of Abia state, says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains stronger than most political parties at its weakest moments.

Ikpeazu spoke on Monday during the south-east PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Abia.

The PDP has been grappling with internal crisis since 2022 with several members resigning, including federal lawmakers and Sheriff Oborevwori, governor of Delta.

“Even in what some may call its weakest moment, the ghost of the PDP is stronger than most political parties in this country,” he said.

“That is why we must be careful not to destroy what we have built over the years. We should close ranks, respect constituted authority, and allow peace to reign.”

Ikpeazu appealed to aggrieved members of the PDP in the south-east to allow Samuel Anyanwu to remain as national secretary until the end of the year.

The PDP is facing a leadership crisis, with Anyanwu and Sunday Udeh-Okoye claiming to be the party’s national secretary.

“Is there anything we have asked senator Anyanwu to do as the national secretary of the PDP in the south-east that he has not done? he asked.

“I want to appeal to our leaders in the zone to allow him to finish his tenure in December.”

Ikpeazu urged party members to remain focused and not allow any provocation to distract them.
