Mike Omeri, a former director-general of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), says David Ombugadu, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa, has no plan to depose any traditional ruler in the state.

Last week, the Nasarawa governorship election petitions tribunal sacked Abdullahi Sule as governor of the state.

The tribunal declared Ombugadu as the duly elected governor of Nasarawa, but Sule has said that he would appeal the verdict.

In a statement on Wednesday, Omeri, director of media for the PDP governorship campaign in Nasarawa, dismissed the allegation as “fake news”.

Omeri said Ombugadu has “deep respect” for traditional institutions in the state.

“Dr. Ombugadu harbours no ulterior motive to replace some Muslim traditional rulers with Christians when he eventually takes up the reins of government,” he said.

“For the record, Dr. Ombugadu has consistently demonstrated a deep respect for the traditional institutions in Nasarawa state and recognizes their vital role in preserving the culture and heritage of the people.

“He values the contributions of traditional rulers to the development and stability of the state.

“Dr. Ombugadu firmly believes in maintaining harmonious relationships with all segments of the society, including traditional rulers, to foster development and unity in Nasarawa State. Any suggestions to the contrary are misleading and without merit.

“We encourage the media to exercise due diligence and verify the accuracy of their sources before publishing such claims.

“It is crucial to uphold responsible journalism and refrain from spreading misinformation that can be damaging to the reputation of individuals.”

Omeri said the PDP candidate is committed to working for a better Nasarawa.
