The trial of Dickson Akoh, commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, was stalled on Tuesday because he failed to show at the federal high court, Abuja.

According to NAN, Akoh wrote a letter to the court, begging to be allowed to write his masters degree examination at the University of Abuja (UniAbuja).

He is standing trial on a 90-count charge bordering on extortion.

The peace corps commandant in a letter dated May 19 attached his examination timetable and said that he would be present in court on the next adjourned date.

Aminu Halilu, counsel to the Federal government said he received Akoh’s letter but his reason was not strong enough since he was not sick.

He asked the court to revoke the bail granted to him.

Kanu Agabi, counsel to Akoh, said his client would never take the court for granted and he would make himself available on the next adjourned date.

The lawyer said that even those serving prison terms were always allowed to go for examination.

After listening to counsels, John Tsoho, the judge, said that Akoh proved a genuine reason why he was absent in court by providing his examination timetable and other documents.

He refused to grant Halilu’s request for the revocation of Akoh’s bail.

The judge then adjourned the matter till July 5.
