The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) says the Dangote Petroleum Refinery (DPR) has laid off some of its staff members.

Faith Agbogido-Odibo, PENGASSAN’s industrial relations officer, confirmed the development to TheCale on Friday.

She said details of the dismissal are bleak, noting that the association has called for a meeting to ascertain the rationale behind the sack.

“Yes, the Dangote refinery laid off some of its staff, not just those that are PENGASSAN members,” Agbogido-Odibo said.

“We cannot just ascertain the number but we have called a meeting. We are deliberating on it for it to be resolved.”

An internal memo circulating online on Friday, signed by Femi Adekunle, chief general manager, human asset management at Dangote Group, attributed the dismissal to “sabotage in different units of the refinery”.

TheCable could not independently confirm the number of staff members that were affected.

Anthony Chiejina, spokesperson for Dangote Group, did not respond to calls and text messages requesting clarification on the matter.

In the circular, addressed to Dangote refinery staff members, the management said it “is constrained to carry a total re-organisation of the plant”.

“As a consequence of this development, we wish to inform you that your services are no longer required, with effect from the eve of Thursday, the 25th September, 2025,” the memo reads.

“Please surrender all the Company’s properties in your possession to your line manager and obtain an exit clearance accordingly but, the date for doing so, will be communicated to you later.”

The refinery thanked the affected workers for their services while working in the refinery.
