Peter and Lola Okoye are celebrating their first wedding anniversary today, having held their traditional wedding on Sunday November 17, 2013 at the Ark, Lekki, Lagos, at the cost of ‘just’ N150m.
Their love story is compelling and amazing. The couple dated for more than eight years before finally tying the knot despite their age difference as well as the differences in their cultural and career backgrounds.
Together, they have a son (Cameron) and a daughter (Aliona).
Lola, who was a business development director at FKG2m, a marketing agency in Lagos, had told the story of how she met Peter, and how the relationship started.
“My agency handles some of British American Tobacco’s brands and P-Square was doing a show for us at one of our events in Enugu. Though I had met Peter a couple of times before then, at the show there was some chemistry.
“He asked for my number and I refused giving it to him. I told him ‘If you really want to know me, you have to find my number’. So he took it as a task and found my number and the rest is history.
“Peter is an old soul and he always tells me that I’m like a 23-year-old. Age is just a number. Right now, you can see it around the world. Demi Moore, Usher and some known people. Even in Nigeria here, they are dating people far older than their age. So, we shouldn’t base it on the age factor. He doesn’t make me feel like he’s younger than me.”
On her Facebook page (as well as on Instagram), Lola couldn’t help sharing a romantic message on what the day means to her.
“Exactly a year today, I married my best friend and lover. I still get butterflies in my stomach when I look at you. Our journey together has been an interesting one, despite some trying times we still remain dedicated to each other and still believe in our story.
“Your humility baffles me and this is why I love and respect you so much. If only the world knew how amazingly humble and kind you are. Thank you for always making me and your children a priority.
“I am dedicated to making you the happiest man on earth with wisdom from God. #HappyAnniversay my husband, my darling, my boo, my hot chocolate…I remain loyal to you always!”
Peter posted on his Instagram page as well, writing: “What was, still is #HappyAnniversary Cc @LolaOmotayo.”
