Peter Obi visits Niger state, donates N20m to flood victims

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, has donated N20 million to victims of flooding in Mokwa LGA, Niger state.

Obi made the donation in Minna, the capital of Niger, on Monday during a visit to sympathise with the state government over the disaster that claimed many lives and rendered many homeless.

He was received by Yakubu Garba, the deputy governor of the state, on behalf of Umar Bago, the governor.

At least 200 persons have been reported dead following the flood that ravaged three communities in Mokwa LGA of the state.

About 500 people are still missing as rescue efforts wane amid fears that there may be no survivors left.

The flood also damaged properties estimated to be worth millions of naira.

The former presidential candidate expressed sympathy to the people of Mokwa and Niger over the incident.

According to NAN, Obi prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and for God to grant their families the fortitude to bear the loss.

He also told the deputy governor of his plans to personally visit Mokwa on a later date to meet with the victims in their moments of grief.

The deputy governor thanked Obi for supporting the distressed Mokwa flood victims.

The deputy governor, who also received the donation on behalf of the government and people of Niger, commended Obi for his show of kindness and love for humanity, especially in support of the victims.
