PHOTOS: Akeredolu in tears as he visits scene, victims of Owo church attack

It was an emotional moment for Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo state, as he could not hold back tears when he visited the scene of the attack on a church in Owo LGA of of the state.

St Francis Catholic Church in Owo was attacked by gunmen during service. Many worshippers, including children and women, were killed.

The gunmen were said to have detonated explosives before firing at the congregants.

The governor who visited the church in company of heads of security agencies, described the incident as “vile and satanic”, calling it a “calculated assault” on the people of Owo.

“It is a black Sunday in Owo. Our hearts are heavy. Our peace and tranquility have been attacked by the enemies of the people. This is a personal loss, an attack on our dear state,” Akeredolu said.

The governor also visited the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where some of the victims were taken to for treatment.
