Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano, and his wife, Hafsat, have been decorated as the Aare Fiwajoye and Yeye Aare Fiwajoye of Ibadanland.

The event held on Saturday at Mapo hall in Ibadan, the Oyo capital.

Among those present were Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Aminu Ado Bayero, the Emir of Kano.

Speaking at the event, Tinubu said the chieftaincy titles will promote positive relations between the north-west and the south-west.

“As in tradition, a marriage alliance between the south-west and north-west is being represented here. You have witnessed a historic day in this historic hall. To witness this is to give traditional prayers for peace, unity and peace in our country. I thank the Olubadan for promoting peace and harmony, including tolerance of cultural values,” he said.

In his speech, Ganduje expressed appreciation to the Olubadan for the honour.

“We are grateful to the Olubadan, Olubadan-in-Council and Ibadan people for honouring us with these prestigious titles. This gives us motivation and encouragement to do more in promoting unity,” he said.

“You made history today in terms of promoting national integration. This is a topical and very important issue we must always discuss as well as promote to achieve peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.”

On his part, the Olubadan said the conferment of the titles will further encourage the bond of friendship between Ibadan and Kano people.

“The Gandujes, being our in-laws in Ibadan through their daughter that got married to our son, Idris Ajimobi, have done it all,” he said.

“Bestowing a befitting chieftaincy title on the hardworking and amiable governor with his wife will be a reward for a man who has been compassionate to us as a people.”
