Pauline Tallen, minister of women affairs, on Monday, inaugurated the rebuilt Government Secondary School in Chibok, Borno state.

On April 14, 2014, Boko Haram insurgents invaded the school and abducted 276 schoolgirls preparing for their final year examination.

Among them, 164 have either escaped, been released or found — but seven years down the line, 112 girls still remain in the custody of the insurgents.

In November 2020, Babagana Zulum, governor of the state, had directed the immediate rehabilitation of the school.

Speaking at the inauguration, Tallen said the unveiling of the reconstructed school signifies the return of peace to Chibok community and asked residents not to be discouraged by the incident of 2014.

While applauding Zulum for rebuilding the school, the minister announced that the federal government will install 50 unit solar panels and other necessary items in the school.

Speaking at the inauguration, Asabe Aliyu, principal of the school, said the school, which was burnt during the incident, resumed temporarily at Central Primary School Chibok in 2016.
