PHOTOS: Buhari inaugurates sports complex, flags off Navy Games in Lagos

President Muhammadu Buhari has inaugurated the Nigerian Navy Sports Complex, Ojo, Lagos state.

The president unveiled the new facility on Thursday while declaring the 12th Nigerian Navy Games open.

The facility includes a multipurpose indoor sports hall, swimming pool, athletics track, and a rehabilitated football field.

Speaking at the event, Buhari commended the navy for the institution’s investment in sports development. He also described the commissioning of the facility as a landmark event.

The president enjoined the navy to harness the facility in uniting troops and grooming talents in the country.

“Sport is a tool that strengthens ties among the troops in the military. I urge you to make good use of the facilities for the discovery of talents for the country,” he said.

In his remark, AZ Gambo, the chief of naval staff, commended Buhari, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos; and Sunday Dare, minister of sports; for the support that culminated in the building of the sports complex.

Gambo, who highlighted some of the navy’s recent strides in sports, assured that the new facilities would be put to good use.

Organisers said 22 events would be competed for at the naval games with most of them taking place at the Ojo complex.
