PHOTOS: Buhari visits Kano, meets victims of gas explosion

President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with the victims of the recent gas explosion in Kano.

The incident, which happened on May 17, resulted in nine deaths, while some other persons sustained injuries.

The president, who is in Kano to attend the 58th anniversary of the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) in Kano, commiserated with the family members of the victims.

Garba Shehu, presidential spokesperson, said Buhari met the victims at the palace of the Emir of Kano, with Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano, in attendance.

“My thoughts and that of the nation are with the bereaved families. I hope the injured will recover fully at the earliest possible time,” the president was quoted as saying.

According to Shehu, the president also described the incident as sad and unfortunate, while expressing the “extreme pain” he felt on hearing the news.

“President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday met the families of victims of the explosion in Kano to express his condolences and that of the nation, describing the incident as sad and unfortunate,” Shehu wrote on Twitter.

“The family members, accompanied by various community leaders resident in Sabon Gari Kano, including Chief Nicholas Ibekwe, the Eze Igbo, were assembled at the Palace of the Emir, His Royal Highness Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero for the meeting with the President.

“In a brief address, the president said he was extremely pained by the loss of lives and injury to many due to the explosion.”
