A night of tributes has been held in Lagos to honour Ayo Adebanjo, former factional leader of Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group.
The elder statesman died on February 14 at the age of 96.
The family had announced that the funeral rites will commence with a day of tributes and service of songs on April 30 at the Eko Hotels and Suites.
Oby Ezekwesili, former minister of education; Akinwumi Adesina, president of the African Development Bank (AfDB); Arunma Oteh, former treasurer and vice-president of the World Bank; and Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, attended the solemn event.

They lauded Adebanjo’s unwavering commitment to national progress, true federalism and restructuring.
Also in attendance were Ibikunle Amosun, a former governor of Ogun and his predecessor, Gbenga Daniel; Rauf Aregbesola, former minster of interior; Kayode Fayemi, former governor of Ekiti state; Bode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Jimi Agbaje, former governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos; Aminu Tambuwal, a former governor of Sokoto state and senator representing Sokoto south; Tunde Bakare, overseer of The Citadel Global Community Church; Obong Victor Attah, former governor of Akwa Ibom; Biodun Shobanjo, chairman of Troyka Holdings; and Joe Okei-Odumakin, activist and president of Women Arise, among others.
