There is a presence of heavy security at the federal high court in Abuja for the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which resumes on Monday.

Officers of the Nigerian Police Force and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) were seen guarding every entrance to the court and the streets leading to the court building.

Journalists whose names were not on a prepared list were not allowed near the court premises.

In June, Nnamdi Kanu was arrested and extradited to Nigeria to face trial after jumping bail in 2017 — he has since been remanded in DSS custody.

Kanu is facing charges bordering on treasonable felony brought against him by the federal government for his campaign for a ”Republic of Biafra”.
