PHOTOS: NUJ FCT launches press clubs in Abuja schools to groom future journalists

The federal capital territory (FCT) chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has launched press clubs in two secondary schools in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The schools are Beautiful Beginning Academy (BBA) in Apo and Government Secondary School (GSS) in Garki.

The initiative is designed to guide students, spark their interest in journalism, and inspire them to explore it as a possible career option.

Grace Ike, NUJ FCT chairperson, said the council’s 2025 press week propelled the decision, noting that the union prioritises mentorship.

“Mentorship is one area we prioritise. Another goal is to encourage healthy competition and explore how we can develop future leaders through writing and broadcasting skills,” Ike said.

Yahaya Ndambabo, vice-chairman of the NUJ FCT and coordinator of the press club unit, said the council intends to empower students to engage meaningfully with their schools and communities.

“It is about sowing the seeds of responsible journalism, civic engagement, and leadership in young people,” Ndambabo said.
