Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, were among the dignitaries present at the public presentation of the autobiography of Sule Lamido, the ex-governor of Jigawa state, on Tuesday.

The unveiling of the autobiography titled ‘Being True To Myself’ took place at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Other dignitaries, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Emeka Ihedioha, ex-deputy speaker of the house of representatives, Iyorchia Ayu, former national chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also attended the event.

Mohammed Idris, minister of information and national orientation, represented President Bola Tinubu, while former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar was represented by Attahiru Jega, ex-chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Tinubu congratulated Lamido on the book, noting that despite being a member of the political opposition and a critic of his administration, he remains one of the strong pillars of Nigeria’s political evolution.

Abubakar said the book, which chronicles the author’s childhood memories, career path, life trajectory, and personal lessons from his private and public relations, is “full of insights and wisdom”.

“Indeed, as the title suggests, in reading the book, Sule Lamido comes across as genuine, authentic, and honest in conveying his thoughts and feelings in a simple, though not simplistic, way—indeed, in being true to himself,” he said.

On his part, Obasanjo described Lamido as an “admirable character”.

Lamido expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to witness the special occasion and to everyone who has supported him.

He paid heartfelt tribute to Obasanjo, describing him as a mentor and source of inspiration since 1999, whose unwavering support was evident in both writing the book’s foreword and attending the launch in person.
