Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, news anchor and producer with Arise Television, was laid to rest on Saturday in Agulu, Anaocha LGA of Anambra state.

Sommie, as she was fondly called, was killed late September in an armed robbery incident at her residence in the Katampe district of Abuja.

Her funeral was attended by Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), some chieftains of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and other dignitaries.

The burial mass took place at St Theresa Catholic Church, Agulu, where Peter Ezewuzie, a priest, delivered the homily.

He consoled the bereaved family, urging them to find comfort in the quality of life Sommie lived.

“The Lord who created us knows the beginning from the end. He is all-knowing. Some of you may be unhappy that a life has been cut short, but you won’t know if that is how God planned it,” he said.

On his part, Obi expressed sympathy for the family of the deceased and reflected on the inevitability of death.

“We cannot question God. When I heard of her death, I didn’t know that she was from Agulu even before I tweeted about it,” Obi said.

“Our coming here will help to console you, but we know that this loss is a huge one. It is the wish of God, and none of us can question God. Please do remember her and her immediate family in your prayers.”
