Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the last elections, on Tuesday celebrated his 62nd birthday in Plateau, where he donated food items to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in the state.

Obi in a post on his official Twitter handle shared photos of his visit to the state.

In recent weeks, gunmen attacked and killed many residents in the communities of Bwoi, Sabon Gari and several others in Mangu LGA.

He also visited Caleb Mutfwang, governor of Plateau, to commiserate with him over the killing of over 300 persons in Mangu LGA of the state.

“In line with my earlier humble request for friends and well-wishers to spread the love today by visiting hospitals, schools and care homes to mark my 62nd birthday, I visited Plateau state to commiserate with the governor and the people over the recent widespread unfortunate killings in the state, which are unacceptable,” Obi said.

“I visited Mangu Local Govt. Area, where over 300 people, including women and children, have been killed. I commiserated and condoled with them over the several attacks on them and the killings of their loved ones.

“I was at Bungha Pilot School in Mangu, which is the biggest IDP camp in the state, occupied by about 60 communities.

“I made token support of N5 million with some bags of rice and also reassured them of our love and care. I equally explained to them that we are all in this together and that as long as we have some Nigerians living in IDP camps, every Nigerian is living in an IDP camp.

“I appreciated the governor of Plateau state, Caleb Mutfwang, for his warm reception and kind comments. I thanked him, especially for the great efforts he has made so far concerning the killings and terror attacks in the state, and for ensuring that the IDPs are well cared for.

“I commiserated with him over the killings in the state and encouraged him to continue to deliver good governance to the people.”

Meanwhile, the Plateau governor in a post on his official Twitter handle also thanked Obi for visiting the state, adding that it was an honour receiving him.

“Your leadership qualities, wisdom, and passion have inspired many within and outside of the country in the pursuit of goals with determination and integrity.

“Birthdays are an opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of the past year and set new goals for the future. I have witnessed firsthand the positive impact you have made, and I am confident that you will continue to achieve great things in the years ahead.

“It is our honour to receive you today. When there are many options for the celebration of this special day, you decided to spend the day with IDPs in Mangu. Your unwavering dedication to the well-being of the people of Plateau state is truly commendable.

“I hope you take some time to reflect on your achievements and recharge for the challenges that lie ahead. May this year be filled with good health, happiness, and success in all your endeavours.
