Sanwo-Olu was accompanied by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat; Abimbola Akinajo, managing director, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA); and Olasunkanmi Okusaga, director, rail transportation, LAMATA.

Also at the inspection were Zhang Peng, project manager, CCECC; Aramide Adeyoye, special adviser to the governor on works and infrastructure; and Frederic Oladeinde, commissioner for transportation.

The red rail line project is a 25-kilometre rail track from Agbado in Ogun state to Marina in Lagos.

The first phase (from Agbado to Oyingbo) is currently under construction and is due to commence passenger operations in the first quarter of 2023, according to the state government.

The project is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the states, and shorten travel time between Agbado and Marina in Lagos by more than two hours.
