Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos state, has honoured Sunday Erhabor, a police officer attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RSS).

The officer was assaulted by one Victor Ebhomenyen after he stopped him for driving against traffic on Saturday.

TheCable had reported how Ebhomenyen shoved Erhabor while boasting that nothing that would happen to him.

In the viral video, the armed police officer maintained his cool in spite of the assault, a reaction that earned him praise from the public.

Ebhomenyen was subsequently arrested by the police and detained at the state criminal investigation department (SCID), Panti.

On Monday, Hakeem Odumosu, Lagos commissioner of police, presented the officer to the state governor.

The governor presented him with a plaque of honour and commended him for the patience shown in the face of confrontation.

Sanwo-Olu charged police officers to emulate Erhabor for the level of professionalism he exhibited while being provoked.

“I want to, on behalf of the government and entire people of Lagos state to commend ASP Erhabor for a show of patience, decorum, and what is expected of a police officer,” the governor said.

“I want to implore all other officers to see that indeed there will be a time when you will be provoked, restraint will work.”
